Keep Houston Beautiful Celebrates Texas Recycles Day

Local events at TxDOT, Goodwill Industries, and the Houston Zoo

[Houston , TX] – [November 9, 2005] – Keep Houston Beautiful has partnered with TxDOT, Goodwill Industries and the Houston Zoo to celebrate Texas Recycles Day which takes place every year on November 15.

The “Cans for Critters at the Houston Zoo” will be on Saturday, November 12, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Children who bring aluminum cans receive free admission to the Zoo. Adults can bring old cell phones to be recycled and have an opportunity to enter drawings courtesy of Blockbuster Video.

The Texas Department of transportation, Goodwill Industries and Keep Texas Beautiful have teamed up to host “Texas Reuse Roundup".  Keep Houston Beautiful is urging Houstonians to clean out their closets, garages, and storage units and bring clean reusable goods to TxDOT's District office for its "Reuse Roundup" collection on November 15 and 16 at 7721 Washington Avenue.

Texas Recycles Day (TRD), which takes place every year on November 15, aims to raise public awareness of the economic and environmental benefits of recycling.  Local TRD events are taking place statewide from mid-October to mid-November. Events range from providing educational materials to hosting a collection for recyclables and making sure they get reused or sent to the appropriate recycling center. Any individual, civic group, youth organization, or company can participate.
