Texas City - FM 1764 Landscape Project

The three acre area previously known only for its metal longhorn sculptures will now stand out more with its beautiful trees and shrubs and soon to be planted wild flowers. The City invested in larger trees to provide an instant back ground for the longhorns and provides shade. This drought tolerant landscaping will provide all passerby’s with a memorable view. All of the BP volunteers will be able to admire their work for many years to come.

Pedestrian/Bicyclist Bridge

Thanks to Mindy Hildebrand, Chair of the Memorial Park Conservancy's Capital Campaign, the pedestrian/bicyclist bridge is expected to be completed November, 2009. The bridge will span 300 feet over Memorial Drive and is designed for a rail to rail minimum width of 14 feet. The bridge will tie into the existing network of paths on the north and south sides of the park, as well as the east and west sides. The bridge is located to provide an at-grade crossing just east of the existing Union Pacific railroad bridge, approximately one half mile inside the Loop 610 on Memorial Drive.

Bar Association Cleanup

Bar Association Cleanup
Many of Houston's finest legal minds object to the litter cluttering up Main Street between the Pierce Elevated and Richmond Avenue. Instead of filing suit, they went a step further; they cleaned it up and plan to keep it that way. Each year, hundreds of members of the Houston Bar Association remove tens of thousands of pounds of trash as a part of the Lawyers Against Waste project. The volunteers clean up, mow, and trim close to 100 lots during the annual effort. In addition to Keep Houston Beautiful, a number of City of Houston departments are involved including: Parks and Recreation, Police, Neighborhood Protection, and Solid Waste Management. METRO and Harris County Mosquito Control also participate.
