Linthicum Appointment as Chairman of Keep Houston Beautiful Announced
William C. Linthicum, Republic Waste Services Area President, was recently elected by the Houston Clean City Commission, Inc., to serve as chairman of Keep Houston Beautiful.
Linthicum said Keep Houston Beautiful is going through a period of tremendous growth due to an overwhelming demand for services. This is a cause for celebration and contemplation. When Keep Houston Beautiful started out in 1979, a total of 1,440 volunteers participated in neighborhood improvement activities. This past year, the number of volunteers reached an all time high of 40,000. This healthy growth in volunteerism is something we at Keep Houston Beautiful are very, very proud of.
Such growth wouldnt be possible unless the word has gotten out that Keep Houston Beautiful is dependable, does what it promises, and gets the job done. When this city needed to look good and impress the officials with the 2012 Summer Olympics Site Selection Committee, whom did everyone turn to? Keep Houston Beautiful, Linthicum continued.
This spring in addition to facilitating the Saturday, March 23, citywide cleanup, Keep Houston Beautiful will coordinate Houstons first participation in the National Youth Day of Service on Saturday, April 27, assist 41 neighborhoods preparing for tours by attendees of the 27th Annual Conference on Neighborhood Concerns May 22-25 and rally volunteer support for another cleanup prior to the second visit of the 2012 Summer Olympic Site Selection Committee.
Linthicum continued, The underlying tenets of Keep Houston Beautiful
remain strong and true to its mission to foster resident and neighborhood awareness
of the important role citizens can play in preserving the natural beauty and
visual amenities of our city.
Keep Houston Beautiful does an awful lot on a shoestring with its exploding
workload. Deepening its financial support so it can continue to help Houston
improve its quality of life is my goal as chairman.
Other officers serving Keep Houston Beautiful include Brett Frazier, Waste
Management, Vice Chairman for Special Events; James Kennedy, Montgomery Watson,
Vice Chairman for Committees; Colbert R. Wilhite, Dupont (retired), Treasurer;
and Elizabeth Ivers, EOG Resources, Secretary.
