Greenspace Adoption oversees and coordinates the adoption of City Of Houston parks, sports fields, esplanades, parks, trails and greenspaces. We invite you to take responsibility for a small part of our city by adopting a street, esplanade, or drain!
Adopt-A-Block
This program will be re-starting later this year under "Adopt-A-Street" more info coming soon!
Keep Houston Beautiful's Adopt-A-Block program is an easy way that a group can participate in making Houston the cleanest city in America. All it takes is for a group to agree to adopt a minimum of 500 yards of an incorporated City of Houston street and to pick up litter from that street at least four times a year for a two-year period. In return, Keep Houston Beautiful and the City of Houston will provide safety meetings, equipment, and trash bags.
The benefits are numerous: a litter-free and more attractive community, recognition for your group, and knowing that the individuals involved are making a difference in their community.

Adopt-An-Esplanade
The city of Houston has a total of 2,240 acres of esplanades. Residents are ready and willing to adopt these areas. You can also take on the beautification of an esplanade near your community, your church or school. There is a very specific procedure for taking on such a project. The ideas for making a difference are limitless.
Through a grant from the Texas Forest Service, Keep Houston Beautiful in partnership with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department has published a new user-friendly Adopt-An-Esplanade Guide. The Guide includes simple easy to follow instructions including a unique flowchart to lead residents through the procedure efficiently. This adoption program welcomes organizations, homeowners associations and civic groups interested in providing long term support for the maintenance and aesthetic quality of esplanades/medians. Term is perpetual provided adoptee maintains esplanades/medians free of trash, mowed and edged.

Adopt-A-Drain
Houston Adopt-A-Drain program allows you to help prevent future flooding, save taxpayers’ dollars and keep our neighborhood storm drains clean and litter free.
When you Adopt-A-Drain you are making a commitment to:
Let the City of Houston know if you can no longer support your drain, so we can open it up to someone else! By adopting a drain, partners receive information and tips from the City of Houston and Keep Houston Beautiful, notification of upcoming Houston Adopt-a-Drain events, and a Storm Water Inlet Marker (first 100). More than that, you’re helping to keep Houston clean and reduce future flooding.
To Adopt-A-Drain:
When you Adopt-A-Drain you are making a commitment to:
- Adopt at least one storm drain
- Keep it clear of leaves and trash
- Clean 10 feet on both sides of the drain at least 4 times per year at each location (especially before it rains)
- Compost or place leaves in lawn bag or compostable bag (City of Houston trash)
- Place any trash in your garbage bin
